About tsuggu

Japanese Craft — Curated for the World

"Small-town threads. Global reach."

tsuggu is a cross-border craft brand based in Ojiya, Niigata — the birthplace of Ojiya-chijimi, a textile tradition designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. We bring Japan's finest hand-woven textiles and artisanal crafts to collectors and creators in North America, Europe, and beyond.

The Name

tsuggu (継ぐ) means "to inherit and pass on." The double-G is both a visual signature and a reminder: tradition does not stay still — it moves forward, carried by new hands into new places.

The Mission

We do not simply sell objects. We deliver the air of a place — the snowmelt water, the slow rhythm of the loom, the hands that have practiced for decades. Every piece is a story that begins in Ojiya and ends in your hands, wherever you are in the world.

Our role is to stand beside each maker without commercial conflict, translating their craft into a language the world can receive.

The Craft

Every piece we carry is made by hand, by artisans who have spent decades mastering a single craft. Not produced at scale. Not rushed. Each item passes through skilled hands that know precisely what they are making — and what it means.

We work directly with these makers, not as intermediaries, but as partners in the same conviction: authentic craft, made with intention, carries a truth that cannot be replicated.

The Voice

Quietly, but with certainty.

We do not compete. We do not chase trends. We tell one story at a time, and we tell it well.
